sorry I don't know how to copy a post when someone writes in it.
But this is in response to post # 163.
so if I feel/believe that God tells me its "ok" for a woman to cut their hair...then its ok?
without getting to deep....you do realize that men voted on what would be included in the cannon...and that our current KJV does not reflect what they first voted on.
Mark 16:16 is a great scripture...but it is NOT the only passage that teaches this principle. Also...if Jesus said "believe, be baptized, and be saved"...then do we have a right to add "don't cut your hair" to that? Also note that Jesus says nothing of baptism with He talks about condemnation....interesting.
regarding 2Tim.3:16. what is "all scripture"? Does this exclude the letters that were written after St.Paul wrote this? How about the O.T.? Does that only include the O.T. at St.Paul's time?....or does it also include ours today?
Excellent thoughts; however I'd quibble about the "men voted on the canon" of Scripture. Sure, there were "votes" taken at later dates in various councils however they were really just voting to confirm what the entire Body Christ had been practicing all along.
2 Timothy 3:16 (New International Version)
16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

no friend that is bad logic. St.Paul's teachings & writings were just that....his writings & teachings. That in no way means "throw them out"....but it does mean that we should understand who is speaking, to whom he is speaking, and try to understand its proper context.
Do I believe St.Paul thought that 2000 years after he penned his letter...a completely different race & culture of people then he was writing to would be condemning people to hell based on these few lines...absolutely not.
Do not throw them out....but use them for their intended use.

thank you.
interesting. what do you call the "entire Body of Christ"? Because if memory serves....there were some pretty heated debates in the first couple of councils(3rd & 4th century)...and later on as well.
history proves that nobody argues like church foke.

Even today, there is more than one canon in use by different segments of the church. (Assuming one allows all the segments that call themselves the church or part of the church to be segments of the church.)

So according to you, Paul's letters should've contained specific instructions for hair length.
"A man's hair is to be such and such length."
When God spoke to Moses and told him to keep the people away from the mountain, how did Moses know where the mountain started? God doesn't always deal in specifics, but He does give instruction. So, when Moses set up the boundaries, how did he know that set them up right? Well, I don't read about any people that died by touching mountain, so I guess he must've done something right.
In a way, I agree with everyone out there that is saying that we need to study scriptures like this. I have read various articles and commentaries, both for and against long hair on men/women. There are a lot of opinions out there and the only way that you're going to find the truth is to pray before you study such matters and allow God to convict you.
So, I guess what I'm saying is this. You cut your hair and I'll keep mine short. I can't make you believe like I do, but I did want to share my convictions. This is what I believe and I will continue to stand by it. Thanks for the debate though, and I am open to more discussion.
Well to compare that to requiring hair be uncut, one could say that Moses should have errored on the side of ultimate caution and said "Stay as far away from the Mountain as the East is from the West!". That would have ended any possibility of someone getting too close by forcing everyone into a singularity on the exact opposite side of the planet.
Go ahead and mock me. Call me names. Insult my intelligence.
Okay, I'll take the bait.

That's how you know.
Just kidding... no, I guess that is how we know. But to answer your question, the "Body of Christ" to whom I referred is composed of the believers who were already using the NT books for centuries before the councils ever convened.
