Re: So heavenly minded we're no earthly good??
In my opinion, for whatever that's worth, some of the actions that we are discussing have been brought on by Pastors that demanded so much of their members, to the point of having to ask him what kind of car to buy and where and when to go on vacation and which house to buy. They can't do anything of any consequence without asking him. (You might not think this goes on but believe me it does. I've seen it and experienced it in the past.)
The members become so dependent on the Pastor that they start approaching God in the same way. But, I personally think that so much of "life" should be lived without "bothering God" with minor details. That's why He gave us the ability to gain knowledge and then wisdom on how to use that knowledge.
Have faith in your own ability! Exercise that ability and when you get it wrong, God is your Heavenly Father and will treat you like a father, with love and forgiveness. Your simple failures will teach you more than book learning in many cases.
