But the passage about women submitting speaks of mutual submission...
"and you will submit to one another out of reverence for the Messiah."
Eph 5:21

I'm not sure that passage is addressing husbands and wives.
I'm just addressing the instruction given to the married couple.

That verse immediately precedes the instructions to husbands and wives.

Ephesians 5:18-25 (New King James Version)
18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.[a]
Marriage—Christ and the Church
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
I understand it as instruction to "the church" - everyone submitting to everyone, then instruction to the married couple. (unless you and your wife speak to one another in psalms, hymns, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord as you make melody with each other....lol!)

So wives are not part of the church?
Mutual submission doesn't apply to husbands and wives?

You are taking this in a different direction. I believe we've just been talking about husbands and wives.
The first portion of that passage means husband, wives, aunts, uncles, pastors, grandmas everyone have submission with the other which would include husband and wives - - yes.
However, we know God's tree of submission.....God, man, woman.

Re: Sex Scenes
The point that I was making is that he didn't tell men to be submissive to their wives and and he didn't tell woman to love their husbands.......why? Women didn't need instruction to love their husbands - - that comes naturally for them. And, apparently, since he'd already taught the church to be submissive to one another, he didn't feel that men needed to be told to be submissive to their wives.
However, he addressed where he thought they would have issues...............men, needed instruction to love their wives and the women needed instruction to be submissive to their husbands. Make any sense?

My point was that he did indeed tell women to love their husbands, and they need instruction or else teaching them doesn't make any sense at all.
And in mutual submission men must submit to their wives just as much as wives must submit to their husbands.

He did. He instructed the older women to teach the younger to love their husbands.
