Not really. You want the Constitution to not apply to this case, I do. Simply follow the Constitution and there will be no impasse. lol

Yes, AFTER the uproar. Obviously, many others were also alarmed by the significance. Enough to get the project name changed! Hello!!

But you are not questioning. You are saying they should not be allowed to peaceably assemble somewhere in a religious manner. That is unconstitutional.

NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY IS SAYING THAT. They have over 100 mosques in NYC alone. We are saying we DO NOT want it in close proximity to Ground Zero!!! Bottom line!!
Okay, that is all.

You can think that all you want, so can the majority of Americans. But the bottom line is that they have the freedom to put a mosque anywhere they legally can. To not want them to have that right is discriminating against Americans trying to practice their religion, plain and simple.

The nuns were not allowed to live in their convent at Aushwitz. Same difference.

So now you are saying we should follow Germany's lead as well as Saudi Arabia's? lol Why do you keep going back to the argument that since other countries don't allow something, we should not either?
For someone so worried that Sharia Law is taking over us, you sure seem to be on the bandwagon of following other countries leads.

The principle behind it - It's about respecting the sensitivities. It is not about bigotry or religious freedom. Isn't that what we're all supposed to strive for these days? Or is sensitivity only a one-way street?

So you think that we should be sensitive to Muslim Americans who lost their lives or were directly impacted in the attacks and should allow them to the freedom of religion all Americans have? Or should we be like Saudi Arabia, as you suggested, and suppress religious freedom?
Just trying to find out what side of the fence you come down on.

I think that the majority of Americans have spoken their feelings in relation to this atrocity - Do not place a mosque in close proximity to Ground Zero. I side with the majority on this.
You are pushing the "hypocrisy" in not allowing religious freedom and I am saying that AFTER the feelings are spoken, this imam is going to want to do it anyway. For claiming relationship building - THAT is the height of hypocrisy and it is very telling, IMO. It's bogus and it is an appeasement on our part. A writer in Britain, Murray, was saying the same thing - he is watching us bow down - just like they did in Europe.

How is it hypocrisy on his part? It's not like he just up and wanted to do this one day. He has been working to bridge the gap between Muslims and the World for years. He has written books to do this, he has traveled to other countries to do this, he has started non-profit organizations to do this.
This is what he has been doing in NY for the past 20 years or so. No hypocrisy on his part, he is doing what he has always done.
The hypocrisy is from people saying, "We have religious freedom" and then not allowing a certain Americans to exercise that religious freedom.
