Re: New Bar at Gound Zero
First of all, before many knew anything about the Imam, his funding, etc... they were already outraged. It's dishonest to pretend any of those concerns are the reason for many to hide behind what is basically Islamophobia, or at the least, guilty of grouping all Muslims together as one monolithic group.
However, I do recognize there are some who have made judgements about this matter after obtaining all the information. This includes the fact that the Imam refuses to denounce terrorism (calling it "complex") or Hamas. Further, the proximity of this Muslim Paradise is suspect and very provocative. NYC what it is, it's not uncommon, but definitely provocative for Americans, and I get that. I don't understand the people who say they don't get that.

Again, show me where he insisted he was getting funds from Muslim-Americans only.
The article you linked to said he was getting funds from two separate places.
The article you linked to did not have him saying he was only getting funds from Muslim-Americans.
You are trying to read between the lines to fit your views that he is a liar who has a deceptive agenda. In reality, he did not insist funds would only be coming from Muslim-Americans.

Nowhere in that article did Imam Rauf state that he would only be collecting funds from Muslim-Americans. He said that the funds would be coming from Muslim-Americans and from Muslim nations. He said nothing about an either/or situation. PO might have gotten an implication that he said that, but in reality, he did not.

I didn't say that the article said that. I just think it's a good article detailing some valid objections to the mosque.
You do understand that 9/11 was caused by "fundamentalist Muslims" (from the article), and that there are STILL human remains in that soil, victims of extreme factions of that religion....right?
Do you not see how it's abhorrent or offensive to then allow that same religious group to built a church in that very place?
How about if we let the KKK build a church (or just a meeting place) on top of the grave of Rosa Parks?

I am not doing anything on purpose. You need to own to the fact that he did not insist he was only getting funds from any one place. Nowhere in that article did he say that. You wanted him to say that so you could call him a liar, therefore you are incorrectly reading between the lines, only thinking what you want to think.

Oh my gosh, I typed out my post, which would have gained me an infraction, but I erased it. Go and do something productive like pick your nose, because APPARENTLY, you can't read!

You know, really, you could resolve this by showing us where he insisted he was only getting funds from Muslim-Americans. I mean, it wasn't in that article, but since you are getting so bent out of shape over it, you must have some type of evidence. Right?
It is simple, either the article you posted had Imam Rauf "insisting" funds would only be from Muslim-Americans or it didn't. A quick word search of the article shows the word insist is not in it.
Boom. Problem resolved. lol

"The imam said the money would be raised here. But he told a London newspaper that Muslim nations would also fund this project."
What does this mean? The imam says that the money will be raised HERE (America) then he tells a London paper the funds with come from MUSLIM NATIONS.
He lied to us saying the money would come from only American entities, then he tells a different story overseas.
HELLO?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

Cordoba Initiative leader Imam Rauf had stated that the $4.85 million to purchase the Burlington Coat Factory came “from the community,” as if to indicate local money. Apparently, raising $100 million plus to build a 15-story mosque at Ground Zero just two blocks north of the World Trade Center requires he reach out a bit further, as a report this morning in the New York Post explains:
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has insisted the project he’s spearheading is meant to build bridges between Muslims and other religions, but so far he has not been able to cite any specific sources of funding.
But in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Rauf told the newspaper that funding would come from Muslims in the United States and from overseas.
“We hope to raise it from a combination of gifts from the local Muslim community and perhaps from some combination of bonds or something like that,” Rauf told WABC Radio’s Aaron Klein last week.

He said the money would be raised here. He said the money would ALSO be raised from Muslim Nations. Exactly where in those answers were there any insistence on where the money would be raised? It is two locations.
No matter how much you cry and yell, he never insisted the money would only be raised here. It would be raised here and in Muslim Nations.
