The entire congregation's eyes were focused on the hem lengths, sleeve lengths, necklines, and overall clinginess of each outfit. He was teaching the young, single ladies modesty by having everyone check them out like that... right?
I am sure that made the girls feel good.

Maybe a handful. Most acted like it kind of bothered and embarrassed them. Even if they were dressed very appropriately. He told them it wouldn't bother them if they were dressed right, though, so maybe I'm mistaken about the appropriateness of their clothes. I wasn't checking them out as much as feeling their pain and breathing huge sighs of relief that I was too old to be a "young person", so I might have missed some things...

That is what I meant , I was being sarcastic..... I would be embarrassed . Moreover I just do not agree with the way it was done , furthermore I just do not think that is what the Kingdom of God is about.

I know you're being sarcastic. So am I.
The incident really did happen, but I have no doubt it was anything BUT modesty that promoted it. The lesson wasn't to lust, but to embarrass those who weren't dressed to standard and pressure them into conformance. Instead it humiliated the humble, meek and modest, while the immodest enjoyed the attention or ignored the whole thing (or skipped out to the bathroom while the obedient walked as commanded).
No one can tell young ladies to be shamefaced, meek, and modest, and then parade them like cattle across the front of the church while talking about standards or encouraging the young men to consider certain ones for marriage because they've got the standards right, telling them they wouldn't be embarrassed if they were dressed right while people eye them. If we aren't supposed to draw attention, why force us to be the center of it? Actions speak louder than words.
