Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, (Peter had already been filled with the Holy Spirit in

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (These folks had already been filled with the Spirit.)
Acts 13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, (Paul had already been filled with the Spirit in
Acts 9)
Acts 13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. (you can't be a true disciple of Christ unless you have his Spirit in you)
Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (The Ephesians were saints which means they were part of the body of Christ. To be part of the body of Christ they would have been made to drink of his Spirit,
1 Cor 12:13. Paul is encouraging these saints who have already received the baptism of the Spirit to be refilled)
The Message: Don't drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him.

Can one be filled and lose it?

Yes,
Ps 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
1 Sam 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

Is not Christ the chief bishop of our souls?
|
Yes.
Yes, if we chose to remain in his hands. But if we sin willfully....see Hebrews chapter 10. We can lose our salvation. It might be more appropriate to say we can throw away our salvation instead of saying we can lose it. It's not like we misplaced our salvation like we would our car keys or cell phone. But some might neglect it, or cast it away, or become consumed with other things, or want not want to deny themselves from fullfilling the lusts of the flesh and the pleasures of sin, and thereby they make their faith shipwreck. In effect, they trade their salvation for a bowl of pottage. I have no idea what point and time a rebellious person loses their salvation. God is exceedingly merciful and longsuffering (as evidenced by his patience and continued wooing of the nation of Israel) but there comes a time where the "space of repentance" is done and judgement comes. At that time, I would think that God would take away his Spirit from that person.

Is it really biblical to seek tongues and not the Holy Spirit?
|
Paul encouraged the Corinthian saints to desire Spiritual gifts...that would include the gift of tongues. But if you are talking about the initial infilling of the Spirit, then a person should seek to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, tongues with automatically follow.
