Re: Happy Halloween?

I borrowed this post from another post about Halloween, but thought it would be
good to put on this thread too.

Could it be that we "notice" the churches more than other places. For instance
I have noticed that many in the city we live in, seem to now put almost as much empha-
sis on Halloween as they do on Christmas. This used to not be the case! So who
is changing! The world (system) is passing away and the lust thereof, but
whosoever doeth the will of God abideth (lives) forever.

Seems the churches have become more conservative in our city, in that they have
an alternative such as trunk or treat, etc. Also our city plans a night for the child-
ren to have trick or treat with the downtown merchants who give out treats,
gift certificates, etc. They feel this is safer for the children.

However on Halloween night, you will still have those who will go house to house. It
seems that many of these are teenagers, etc., and even some adults with children.
But homeowners do not turn on their porch lights as they once did, having treats for
the children. It seems that the night the city planned with the downtown merchants
is more popular and safer. Then also, the churches who have alternatives to Hallo-
ween have increased.

Many from the community come to our Trunk or Treat alternative, that would
not necessarily come to our services. They come to other activities too, such
as our Fourth of July celebration, Easter services. We also have a cake walk
and other activities also. We have members that came originally to one/some
of these activities or outreaches.
