Re: Happy Halloween?
We have several hundred come to the door. Give out candy along with a fun Christian message. I think one time they gave "Jesus is the Light" flash lights out, and other times a note encouraging kids to go to Sun School.

We live out in the country, so kids don't come to our door. And here the downtown merchants give out treats. Much safer I think. And a lot of the churches have activities for the kids also.

I live in a small town. It's safe to say most who come to our door "know" us. Sometimes we have heard them say things like "this is the Jesus house, mom!".

there is a serious difference.
Are there more workings of magik this time of year? Yes.
Are they confined to Oct 31? No.
Do they have anything to do with the commercialized holiday of halloween? Not really.
Admittedly there are some seriously nasty costumes and decorations out there
these days, as well as some fools that want to use the excuse to engage
in very poor judgement and behaviour, that has nothing to do with the
day itself either.
My son said it fairly well in his 'this is the day' thread.
It is a day that God has made, same as the other 364 days of the year.
The followers of Jesus can either get off of their soap boxes and
engage the folks that are coming to their door, or they can cower in the
back rooms of their houses and pretend that no one is coming by at all.
Tracts and prayer and even conversation with them and their parents if
they are with them and have the time.

When I was young, I participated in Halloween all the time. We grew up in church and thought nothing of it. When I was older and married, we started researching it and realized that everything about the day is based on the "dark" stuff of evil. It seems like on Halloween, Christians accept things that God calls abominations - just because we say it's in fun. Well I just can't imagine God laughing at that.
The movies that come out around this time of year are HORRIBLE, and they are directed at people's fascination with the evil things of the season. The ones this year called "Devil" and the one about the Last Exorcism - they are so evil that the previews made me literally sick. Also, the Halloween store that comes to our town every year is called "Spirit". Wonder why?
I'm not condemning others - like I said, I took part in it for years. But it's not something that I can conscientiously do anymore.

Okay, I'm not going to fight with ya, but I bolded the statement that most
concerns me.
You see, there is a lot of 'research' out there about the topic that is
basically urban myth.
If you don't want to participate in it for conscience sake, thats okay.
I merely ask that my brothers and sisters stop ceding the day away,
especially due to false perceptions of it.

I think (for us), it's partly based on the fact that my husband grew up in Africa, and he knows the power of witchcraft and spiritism. Plus we've traveled there many times and faced powers that are so strong. To us, it's not "cute" or funny when people dress up as witches or ghosts. It's just too real.
