I think when DB talks about Apostolic identity he is talking about the things that distinguish his movement from the rest of Christianity.
And why is this identity important? Why would a part of the body of Christ set themselves apart from all the rest? Fundamentally, I have a problem with the idea.
That is a GREAT point!! Rather than making an attempt to unite with Christendom for the focused purpose of taking the gospel to the world, there is a continued attempt to show that they're "Set apart" from everyone else.
I left in UPC in 1993 and I keep hearing that "things are different now", that it's "not like it used to be." In fact, I've heard that a lot from Hoovie here on the Forum. But things like this just reinforce that nothing has changed at all. Just more of the same, "We have the truth, sucks for the rest of you sorry schmucks."

Funny. I'm trying to get someone "in the know" to talk to me about it and no one is. So, I'm forced to assume a few things based on what I'm hearing.
I'm getting the feeling a lot of you "in the know" are embarrassed about it.
Or they know its going to turn into another 400 page thread of the same ole same ole.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
So I was looking through Facebook and I noticed that David Bernard had one, so I couldn't help but click. In that little box thinggy it said, "General superintendent of UPCI. I believe in Apostolic identity."
So I keep hearing this term "Apostolic Identity"? I guess I'm out of the loop so can someone tell me what this means? Is this how you spot an Apostolic from across the grocery store, or how to catch one sneaking into the movie theater, or what?
I don't get it.

I thought oneness people were not accepted by mainstream trinitarian circles.
So, how can anything be brought together when oneness is pretty much rejected and often looked upon as heresay?
I remember Nona Freeman telling of an incident when she and her husband were still in Africa and her husband recieving an invitation to come to a group of trinitarian missionaries to be told he would not be allowed to be a part of their group.
Her husband's response was, "that's the first time I've been thrown out of something I never belonged to."
Don't get me wrong, I don't ahere to the outward being the primary seperation and I don't adhere to anything extra biblical. I fully believe that we're known by our fruit, the first one and most important is love.
