Nutrition is the boat, medicine (natural and traditional) is the helicopter. When we pray for healing we need to be sure we are doing our part.

LOL I like that!

Re: Going to the doctor = sin????

I know of one pastor that was strict against going to the doctor, his wife began having a heart attack and so he called 911. Of course you know the rest of the story she was taken to the hospital and was seen by a doctor. I believe that there are just somethings that are common sense that you need to be seen by a doctor. Something that my former pastor prayed over me one time when I was in the hospital that I will never forget we pray god heal them every time we pray for someone he prayed God either heal him or use the doctors for everything we pray is subject to your will. but going to the doctor is not a sin unless you can give me biblical scripture for it and I am afraid it is not there.

James tells you what to do if there are sick among you. It says what to do, and it says what will happen. Medicine is not mentioned.

Well, but...our current-day 'diseases' are possibly not even the same afflictions; or even in the same class?

I believe that that frame of reference is more a result of emergence from the Dark Ages, and not relevant to Biblical times, when (as a result of selective infanticide) most people enjoyed a pretty high level of health, at least in the Roman world.

Re: Going to the doctor = sin????

A shocking definition of medicine.

The word Pharmacy comes from the Greek word Pharmekia.

The definition of this word is found in Strongs No. 5331

The Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the King James Bible defines the word as follows in its Greek Lexicon: 5331 φαρμακεια pharmakeia, far-mak-i'-ah; from 5332; medication ("pharmacy" [pharmaceutical]) i.e. (by extens.) magic (lit. or fig.):-sorcery, witchcraft.5332 φαρμακενς pharmakeus, far-mak-yoos'; from φαρμακον pharmakon (a drug [or medicine] i.e. spell giving potion); a druggist ("pharmacist") or poisoner, i.e. (by extens.) a magician:-sorcerer.5333 φαρμακος pharmakos, far-mak-os'; the same as 5332:-sorcerer.

Proverbs 18:9 says, "He who does not use his endeavors to heal himself is brother to him who commits suicide."

Proverbs 18:9
Amplified Bible (AMP)
9..He who is loose and slack in his work is brother to him who is a destroyer and [a]he who does not use his endeavors to heal himself is brother to him who commits suicide.
Footnotes:
Proverbs 18:9 This verse so reads in The Septuagint (Greek translation of the Old Testament). Its statement squarely addresses the problem of whether one has a moral right to neglect his body by “letting nature take its unhindered course” in illness.

In 1 Timothy 5:23 the Apostle Paul encouraged Timothy, "drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities"

There is a passage in the book of Ecclesiasticus (also known as "The Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach" or just "Sirach") that speaks of medication and treatment by a doctor. This book is found in the 1611 King James Version and some newer than 1611 King James Version Bibles but was later deleted. It is also found among the Dead Sea Scrolls and in several other Bible versions.

Ecclesiasticus 38:1-15 reads:

1 Honour physicians for their services,
for the Lord created them;
2 for their gift of healing comes from the Most High,
and they are rewarded by the king.
3 The skill of physicians makes them distinguished,
and in the presence of the great they are admired.
4 The Lord created medicines out of the earth,
and the sensible will not despise them.
5 Was not water made sweet with a tree
in order that its power might be known?
6 And he gave skill to human beings
that the pharmacist might be glorified in his marvellous works.
7 By them the physician heals and takes away pain;
8 the pharmacist makes a mixture from them.
God’s works will never be finished;
and from him health spreads over all the earth.
9 My child, when you are ill, do not delay,
but pray to the Lord, and he will heal you.
10 Give up your faults and direct your hands rightly,
and cleanse your heart from all sin.
11 Offer a sweet-smelling sacrifice, and a memorial portion of choice flour,
and pour oil on your offering, as much as you can afford.
12 Then give the physician his place, for the Lord created him;
do not let him leave you, for you need him.
13 There may come a time when recovery lies in the hands of physicians,
14 for they too pray to the Lord
that he will grant them success in diagnosis
and in healing, for the sake of preserving life.
15 a man sins in the eyes of his Maker
if he defies the physician.
I remember finding this several years back....awesome.

Amen, but it should be noted that you go on to provide a Scriptural definition for a naturopath, and not a "physician" as we now define them. Right there, it says "medicine from the earth does us good." When is the last time you went to an MD for such a cure? I agree with M the D; you are probably going to a licensed sorcerer?
