He was a good contestant, for sure. But his flame died quickly.
Carrie, Kelly -- even Clay are some of my faves.
I thought Michael Johns was up there for me too.
I think Michael Johns may have been a member of Andy Stanley's church. I heard that but it was never confirmed.
I'm not crazy!! Adam was incredible on the show, the best ever. But I had some friends who went to see the Top 10 Idol tour and afterwards, they told me, "You're going to be really disappointed. He's not the same."
They were right.
Elliot Yamin was one of my favorites, as well as Danny Gokey. I really liked Christian Christian from the first year. Her rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine" was the best I've ever heard.
I dont care about your facts NOW. I dont care what sex sells or even who is or is not gay.
I care about what I get when i read the press clippings and news etc and when I watch a show.
I do keep up on pop culture because it is important if you are going to be able to sound intelegent to people you are trying to win. (both to God and the business world).
last year was terrible. talent? dont know dont care. but the vibe was aweful and it was significantly different from previous years.
this year has not been that at all. this is a good thing.

Ok Ferd, you're a smart guy but surely you'll consider a few things:
1) Facts DO matter.
2) You're referring to press clippings. Would you consider the possibility that the authors of the press clippings had an agenda and not American Idol?
3) You said earlier that you only watch a couple show last year. I watched every show. Like I said, I fast-forwarded through guest performances, but other than that, I didn't miss a minute. I saw no agenda at all.
Why do you fast-forward guest appearances? I don't get that.
Harry Connick, Neil Diamond... oh, I won't start, but there's been some awesome guest performances.
I'm interested in the show, the results, I don't care much about who's there trying to sell their latest release. If it were Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Muse, Seether, etc., yeah, I'd stop and watch. But Katy Perry? Lady Gaga? Jennifer Lopez? Naaaa......not interested in their computer-generated fake music.

see NOW, things are relitive. there is a certainl level of sexuality in pop culture that exists no matter what. the business we are talking about has this already at a level above what takes place in peoples normal lives...
but then there are those instances where the level rises and there are those times when someone comes along and blows up the steriotypes and provides a very different view that would be considered "wholesome" by the popculture standard.
your "facts" are stipulated. Last season rose above the normal level to a point that some of us actually recognized it.
This season has been about the music.... at least as far as what I have read and what I saw last night. There were some things that made me uncomfortable but pop culture tends to do that to me. but I get it and clearly I am not objecting to those things persey because they were "normal"
Last season was anything but normal.

Music Snob. I like music -- period. Not a huge fan of the above artists you knocked on, but the guest artists have been much more varied than that short list. And out of that list, Gaga is the best talent.
Yeah.. J Lo would've been dumb to skip on releasing a single with all her new publicity. She's a hot commodity right now. People buy her music just because they like her -- certainly not because she can sing. She's an entertainer and has had a successful career at being J Lo.

... and read an aweful lot... as I generally do...
Much of the writing/blog/articles last year mostly came from right-wind evangelical websites --- the same folks who boycott Disney, find evil under every Teletubby and Carebear.
It's hard to have a firm opinion about a show one has not invested much time to watch (last season). Reading others opinions gives you some credibility, but it's still just other's opinions, right?
