If you're concerned about your kids heading into something unprepared, then PREPARE THEM. No, it's not a promise that they won't deviate from the course you'd like them to stay on or hope they might take. It's a lot more effective than waiting until they're 17, 18 and going to college and deciding to pray for them. Definitely pray, but good grief! Give them something to hang onto, starting when they're young.
Is that more clearly stated?
Perfect.

Most parents cannot compete with the IQ and scholarly knowledge of many professors. All they can do is their best while remaining as intellectually honest as possible. Remember, dogma, if not grounded, will crack like brittle glass under the University system. IF on the other hand, it IS founded, it will withstand the assault.
It also helps for parents to teach their kids that science is NOT evil. There is some "bad" science for political purposes, but there is also honest science that is constantly reevaluating itself as new discoveries come out. It is en extreme disservice to kids to teach them that "this scientist, who teaches that the Earth is <gasp> billions of years old, is a fool!". This is an example of dogma that will be the first to shatter, and unfortunately likely take the kids faith with it in other things when it happens.
And again, what exactly is the course of action you are recommending?
That wasn't real the point I was responding to. I think her course of action was fine. I think her words, in giving her course of action, betrayed her other opinions.

I see.

Give them a Biblical worldview about science. New science is most certainly more intertwined with philosophical problems than old science, which simply was about finding how how things worked.
And I agree with your parenting suggestions -- as well as you are right about the huge gulf between the average parent's education and their potential University student child. Your children will wrestle. Your child is entering a battlefield, send them prepared and ready, but also know the stakes and risk are high.

Ok. I'm curious.
What other opinions?

God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. ~Romans 3:24 from The Message
It was words like I'll paste here that set me off a little. Instead of agreeing and saying "universities can be a hell hole, and we as parents have got to do something about it." The response I got was "it's not big deal, no different than co-workers or preachers being wrong." Very marginalized my point to make your own, which I agreed with.
I think if Universities are a graveyard for Christians, Christianity is seriously lacking.
What is going to be taught at college is pretty openly available for parents to look at and know about before the kids get anywhere near college aged.
You're saying that a professor who doesn't believe the scriptures are inspired is "evil"?

RESPONSE: Yeah, I actually am serious.
I don't think their preaching is any more of a problem than preachers preaching. Preachers are as wrong about their worldviews are as professors are.
I haven't seen a unified Christian worldview.
I'm not saying it's not a problem. But it's no more of a problem than going out into the world anywhere else. I work fast food. I see it and hear it there as much as I do at school.
