Ha, you got jokes about discernment.
I only need to meditate on which party Christ might stump for, to understand how I should approach politics. As if Biblical proclamations weren't enough.
And I take casting lots seriously, having been disciplined in its frivolous use.
If you aren't comfortable with the Scripture on the subject, fine, but I sure wouldn't advocate playing with it.
Also, if you are a Christian who for some reason feels that politics is one of the traditions of men they you are currently called to participate in, then earnestly casting lots might work fine for you, I don't know.

OK, so I laughed, but why wouldn't you seriously use lots to find out how to vote? Sure, meditation could work, too, but it wouldn't be frivolous to cast lots.
BTW, I suspect that if every Christian used either method (meditation or casting lots), we would find that some used the method incorrectly -- not everyone would vote on God's candidate. (Which ones were right and which were wrong is anybody's guess. Well, you would know for sure, I suppose.)

Ha, I'm pretty sure any meditation here would negate any further action, and there is no reason lots could not be set up to reflect the possibility that God would have you vote for no one. But, your final paragraph there is telling about why politics is satanic, imo. The beginning premise of politics is whacked Scripturally, and so every decision that proceeds from that premise will be whacked.
I guess this thread is somewhat upsetting to some people? My account was suspended for several hours this am, and this is about the most inflammatory thing I have going. For the record, I mean no offense.
I would like nothing better than to not feel compelled to speak about politics in a Christian forum, period, and I stay out of the political room now. If my posts seem ranty, understand that AFF has like a 20:1 ratio advocating politics in some form.

Satanic? Then how does God ordain all the powers that be (Rom 13)?

Hebrews 13:23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty
This is in the context of Samuel, which has not changed (our minds here, that is)--we still look for an earthly king, that's all this is. I hardly imagine I will even change this, but seek more to restore politics to a less distorted place for a Christian.
There is truly nothing new under the sun.
I Sam 8 10-22
10Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattleb and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the Lord will not answer you in that day.”
19But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
21When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. 22The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”
translation: "Well, apparently a little umpty-thousand year detour will be necessary..."
