I know one of your favorites is Stefano, but for some reason, he's had a hard time getting votes. He was nearly voted off after doing "Hello", which was a masterpiece. He wasn't voted into the top 10, has been in the bottom 3 twice after singing masterpieces, so I'm afraid that he won't survive after doing that last night. It's a bummer. He's one of the best ever on AI.

I agree - - you'd think he would get some teen girls following him because he's a cutie, but his personality doesn't show at all so maybe that's keeping the votes low. I hate that it ends up being a popularity vote really.
Pia is awesome, but she's a performer - not an entertainer and I think that's going to hurt her. She seems like a fish out of water last night trying to be all cool and hip. Her voice is flawless though.

Oh man, it was hard to watch her last night. I don't mind, at all, having her just stand there and sing. Plus, that outfit!!!! Can they PLEASE never have Gwen Stefani on there again to dress people?
Speaking of "just stand there and sing", why the heck is it SO important for people to "Perform"? The Beatles never "performed", they just wrote great songs, played average music, and stood there doing what they did. They didn't have to have 95 dancers, fire-breathing dragons, hovering smoke, and media productions.
To me, when a person has to "Perform", they're saying, "I'm not good enough on my own." I've been disappointed when they continually tell Stefano that he needs to perform. He's a GREAT singer. I wish that were enough.
And last night when Jennifer Lopez was telling Pia to work on her moves and dancing, and blah, blah, I wanted to throw something at the TV. I was thinking, "Yeah, Jennifer, you have to do that stuff because you can't sing!! Pia, unlike you, CAN sing!!"
Put Billy Joel at a piano and have him sing, "She's Got A Way About Her". Let The Beatles simply sing, "Hey Jude". I'll take that over the light and fire shows any day.

I agree. I think it's cool that he didn't feel comfortable as a teenager singing "Let's Get It On" and instead picked one of my Top 10 favorite songs ever. Good song choice, good control...
Haley: Still love her and her voice, but her growling is getting on my nerves just like Casey's did. If she would back up off the gravel, she'd have been perfect! Love her unique sound.
Ha. You have to like that, I guess. Some of us like a little scratchy shrill in the melody She always makes me nervous, but always feels karaoke to me a little... hard to take her serious. She's pretty, sexy voice, but just doesn't command the stage like a rockstar. That said, she did very well tonight, and a good song choice.
Casey: Perfectly balanced. Very good job this week Casey. Props to you!
Another one of my Top 10 favorite songs EVER -- this is what Casey brings, a little funky, a little flair, a little unorthodox musicality... like Jennifer said, "I'll pay to sit in front for that."
Lauren: Voice was on point, and she did an excellent job, but that is my one worst hated song of all time. Dumb song. Dumb hair. Great artist. LOL! I prefer her down-to-earthiness, over this made up mess.
It wasn't so much that she was made-up, as much as it just didn't look good at all! lol Her body shape is a little on the voluptuous, curvy side, and her clothes didn't help!
Her voice was nice, smooth... overall, very forgettable though. Maybe safe enough though.
James: AAARRRGGGHHH!!! I missed most of his performance. (Stoopid Extreme Couponing sucked me in during commercial break!) LOL! But the last few moments that I did catch were beautiful. Loved to see him sitting quietly. He needed that after his crazy antics in the crowd last week.
I saw NOW give him high praise, and I liked what he did, broke things up. He emotionally connected with the song, etc... It was just okay for me though. Nothing exceptional. A cut above the middle of the pack for me this week. But he's so much better vocally than I'm used to.
Scotty: Obviously not comfortable with 'performing'. He's so used to sitting quietly I don't think he knew what to do with his hands and looked uncomfortable, which makes ME uncomfortable! LOL! Hubby called him a 'lounge singer'. Overall, not impressed.
He's done that deal with hands the entire show! ha. You'd think someone would have helped him. It was cool to see him do something a little different though. People have fun with him. I thought it was a good performance though. I was as excited as Randy.
Pia: Definitely out of her comfort zone. Not natural to her and it shows. Jimmy wanted more from her tonight, and while it was a great attempt, she still didn't deliver the goods. Don't get me wrong, her voice is incredible, beautiful, gorgeous...but I'm still just not sure who she is. Although this week I think I have more clarity about what I don't like about her: she just doesn't have the passion normally seen in performers. She even said tonight that she's terrified when she comes out, and that's probably her downfall. She's too scared to 'act' and be the performer I want her to be. I want my American Idol to be unique, and she's just so blah.
She loves Celine (second Celine song, though it was originally Tina Turner). I actually love the song... I think I liked to see Pia show more emotion tonight, but that song requires a little more body movement than what she gave. You are right about the fear, etc... but overall I thought it was solid. America wants her to bring the performance part right. Her voice is diva-ish.
Stefano: Eh. Not sure what to think. He's got a really nice voice, but I just don't think he's got enough of the 'it' factor to continue to carry him through. He's another that I think is hampered by not having a unique personality that shouts 'I am a performer!'.
We've said the same thing every week (myself included), and I've counted him out. Waiting for that "Judges Save" break-out performance, but in fairness, he's done consistently well.
I really like this guy. I think the teenage vote will work for him
What he needs to do going forward: capitalize his niche, which is R&B/Pop, and pick songs that are not so predictable.
Paul: Another, 'what can I say' performance. I like him. I liked the performance. I like him because he's unique. 'Nuff said!
This dude is fresh, unique, Mr. Cool... I love his stage performance... the key seemed a little topped out early on for me. Like he didn't have anywhere to go. But this is Paul McDonald right here. We tend to judge these singers according to singers in our mind, but he's unique. He rocked it out tonight too.
My prediction for bottom 3: Stefano & Scotty. Okay, bottom 2.
I can't decide who will be number 3, Lauren? Haley? Paul?
I say look for Stefano, Lauren... Scotty? Jacob? Look for some surprises tonight!
I think Stefano will be going home this week.

Catching up by TiVO, haven't seen results show yet. My comments above
These judges are killing me. Steven Tyler, I love the dude... but he said some awkward things, dramatic, over-the-top and just flat out weird some times. Where is the critical feedback tonight? Thankfully Randy tempers things a little.

Please God, let it be Scotty that goes home. But like you, I'm afraid it's going to be Stefano.

I almost agree with most of your take this week, NOW.
Except I think James D. gets your heart more than he does mine. But you've caused me to look at him differently. The song didn't move me as much as it did you. I have mixed feelings about Scotty. I think the kids and teeny boppers are keeping him around. I do think, though, that Scotty may surprise us with something of a country music career. We'll see. He seems too much like a kid to me right now, and country is such a grown man genre
