I have no problem with it personally after all, there is somerthing in that same portion of scripture that talks about speaking in tongues to, and there is plenty of that running around so why not do it all the way and handle the snakes to after all we cannot pick and choose what we what to do in the bible but some do..

 We can blow it off on here as if they are not an issue at all. But if we lived in an area where the snakehandlers are prevalent, I think we might just feel a little more strongly about it. At least they did when I lived in Kentucky for one year.

You point could be valid if you discount whay Jesus said in Mark. Are there scriptures stating a sign of a believer is cutting thenselves? Good try. The only possible way you can explain the scripture away is to say that verse wasn't in the original text. If you do that, then you have to discard the other signs of believers.
I don't believe we should pick parts of a verse to apply and throw away the parts we don't want to deal with. A lot of people do that with that scripture.

You are right - I do discount that this scripture has any instruction for believers intentionally taking up poisonous snakes or downing a fifth of strychnine marmalade.

I take it you apply the same principle to section of speaking in tongues and healing the sick and casting out devils. The reason why we have so many denominations is because of selective application of scripture. If I apply your reasoning for the verse in Mark 16, I would think that casting out demons, healing the sick, speaking in tongues should not be done intentionally. The problem is people apply different principles to the part they feel uncomfortable with.

Seems like we have been here before...
I think all - in this scripture were prophesied to occur, and did occur shortly thereafter, as the Lord led. I don't think we necessarily do these things at will, nor is it left up to us in particular.
