Re: Should This Woman Lose Her Job?
There is probably no one that wants freedom, if freedom to be stupid protected more than I. But this is pretty cut and dry, she was on company time, representing the company, and obviously neglecting those patients in her care if she has time to do something like this.
Furthermore, even if this were on her own time... because people know where she works, she's hurt their image, and their public relations. It's basic logic that when an employee becomes a public relations liability for a business, and starts to send business away.... get rid of the employee. Yep, she has free speech... but freedom has a cost. And to whom much is given, much is required. That's why, when we exercise our freedom, we should weigh out all the possible ramifications... and count the cost.

Fired. Forgiveness has a place, work is not it.

Fired. I would not tolerate such behavior from any of my employees.

Re: Should This Woman Lose Her Job?
I agree that she showed poor judgment, but she did not learn anything from the backlash. If she had apologized and admitted that she had done wrong, then I might have been willing to reconsider. However, she then compares this to smoking next to a No Smoking sign. At that point it is obvious that she has a complete lack of respect for our armed forces, her companions, nor rules and guidelines. If she is willing to violate a simple request such as this, do we really want her in a place where her blatant disregard for rules, regulations, and guidelines could be fatal?

As a veteran, what I think she done was deplorable; however, getting fired means that it will be difficult to get another job when you have to explain why you left the job to begin with. I would give her a serious write up and the knowledge to know that she will reap what she sows.

I bet her mommy argued with the teachers every time she got a bad grade too.

It appears to me that she really didn't mean to be offensive.
I would think long and hard before firing her but, I wouldn't hire her, in light of this event-- which is why I wouldn't rush to fire her.
For her to be fired for this one time indescretion could put her in a very difficult place for a long time and I don't think her intent warrants such a punishment.

That's precisely what she was trying to do! Her Facebook post says, "...This is just us, being the douchebags that we are, challenging authority in general. Much like the pic posted the night before, of me smoking right next to a no smoking sign."
Perhaps she was too shortsighted to see how far-reaching the offense could go, but she was deliberately offensive.

Good Lord... who refers to themselves as a 'douchebag'? this is obviously someone completely without respect for self or others. Gross.
