I also buy all my cards........birthday, get well, anniversary, etc. at the Dollar Store. They only cost fifty cents, and some of them are really nice!

Re: How to Save Money

Thanks for the hints, Blubayou. This thread has been great for me as I am remembering either things I used to do and quit doing or things that are new. Amazing that there are so many ways to cut back when you need to. Of course, when you just WANT to, that's when it's just plain fun IMO and makes it more likely you won't need to down the road.

Re: How to Save Money

Here is a list on the best times in the year to buy certain items:

I have been waiting to find a good used furniture set, but, if I don't find one soon, I am afraid I am going to have to break down and buy some new.

Re: How to Save Money

I am seeing a furniture store right now that if you buy a couch and loveseat for about $1100.00 you can get a grocery rebate for $500.00. Opinions please!!

There's a furniture store here offering a $500 gas card free with a $1000 purchase. I'm not in the market for furniture now though. Would be a great time to buy if I were.

I am now tracking my expenditures for groceries to see how much I spend on groceries and see if I can reduce it.
My husband was astounded when we got married and I did not know how much eggs, milk, or bread cost. My response was if I need it I buy it- regardless of the cost. So this is quite a change for me.
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, because it's been a while since I've been in this thread. It's not highly promoted, but Walmart will also match store brands or generic brand sale prices for the great value or sam's choice brand. I never knew about that till I worked there. They told us NOT to tell consumers, but if they knew already and mentioned it, that we could do the price match.

Do you do this presently?

Re: How to Save Money

I have had them match sale prices for items as long as I had a paper showing the price, but I did not know about them matching their brand for another store brand. Thanks for the info.
