Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

There's a town called Aromas in California. I always chuckle when I drive by the sign for it.

Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

Obviously the preacher never meant a literal smell, but atmosphere.

But, how are people going to "smell" or "see" the atmosphere when they are away from church?

Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

The Preacher may have meant aroma.

Has anyone ever wondered just how bad it would have stunk naturally during the Old Testament times of animal sacrifice?

You know those folks didn't know hygiene like we know it today.

Maybe part of the manifest Presence of God was a scent that overpowered the natural funk of death and blood.

Isn't the word "savor" a direct reference to smell?

Why couldn't a person smell like worship, in the most positive way possible?

Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

Here you go!

Exd 40:27 And he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses.

Exd 31:11 And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy [place]: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.

Mal 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name [shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense [shall be] offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name [shall be] great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

Luk 1:9 According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.

Rev 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, [which came] with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.

Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

Notice the prayers of the saints accompanied their version of Lysol.

One has to wonder how any of this was hygienic, sanitary.

One has to wonder why illness and disease just didn't wipe them all out, given what they were doing.

It was a supernatural intervention by a Supernatural God that enabled them do what they did.

Even the most powerful incense sticks could not have been enough to do what needed to be done to keep all of the blood guts Holy and not deadly.

Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

Coming from a group that calls themselves monks, the follow quote was something that was thought provoking.

“When we use incense, and experience its aromatic perfume through our sense of smell, we are helping to involve the entirety of our person in worship. We are to consecrate all of ourselves to God; mind, heart, will, strength, emotions and senses.”

Re: Can You "Smell" Like Worship?

And again.....scripturally.....does worship cause people to be "won" to the Lord?

The preacher said people ask him "What are you? Are you a preacher or something?" And he tied it in to the fact that he worships God and has the aroma of worship on him. He didn't tie it into the fact he doesn't swear....he didn't tie it into the fact he doesn't wear a watch or a wedding ring etc. etc........he didn't tie it into anything that could be SEEN to be different about himself.....he said it was the aroma of worhsip.
