What is a bit irritating is that TWO WEEKS after we got our Droids they starting pre-selling the HTC Incredible. Two weeks! (And for the exact same price that we paid.) Oh well, I still love the Moto Droid..... And I figure I will upgrade this time next year since it will take that long for 4G to come to the Phoenix valley. Right now I am sitting in my office at our Paradise Valley location and the signal varies greatly since I am surrounded by tall hills/short mountains.

Lack of 4G coverage is the only downside since the PHX metro doesn't even support 4G yet. But everything else kind of overrides that, IMO.
And don't worry, RW, I'm sure within a month of this being released some other newer, better and faster phone will come out. And it will probably have Star-Trek-like Tricorder, Universal Translator and be powered by a Positronic Brain.

Re: Motorola Droid
How long does your battery last? I find I have to charge it everyday. I'm not a real heavy user either. My screen contrast is about 30% also.

Go to the app store and search for Open Advanced Task Killer. This turns off non-essential background programs and has improved my battery life immensely. I ran out of juice a lot myself the first few days and was thinking "man I need to be carrying a car battery with me at all times for this sucker!" but once I learned about the task killer and turning off WiFi and GPS when not being used things have gotten MUCH better.

I got that. I checked my battery usage and my display was still 50%! so I turned it down a little more as well as changed my display off timer from 2 mins to 30 seconds.

The display doesn't take that much power.... I went from 10 minutes to 2 minutes myself and am thinking about switching it back to 5. It is important to know that while it can charge from a USB port on a PC it charges MUCH faster when plugged into the wall. Also, the battery does seem to be conditioned after a few days and gain a little more 'oomph' itself.

I am sad. SAD.

if you have T-mobile in you area they have plans called even more plus which are non contracted rate plans and are 10-20 dollars cheaper than there contracted rate plans.
The only catch being you have to pay full price for you phone but they have EIP where you can stretch the cost of your phone out over 20 payments. Which the best phones like the HTC HD2, My Touch and Motorola cliq xt would only be around 20.00 a month.

Re: Motorola Droid
Also most companies are offering rate plan discounts for alot of companies, schools and membership orgs. I know T--tmobile and Verizon offer them. Anywhere between 6-20% post tax. For example if you work at Mcdonalds you can recieve a 15% discount from t-mobile. There are thousands of them listed.

Re: Motorola Droid
Currently have an iPhone, but I'm starting to reall dislike Steve Jobs' philosophy and control freakishness. Waiting for a few more android devices to come out before I consider making a switch. The EVO 4g looks promising. I will agree that the physics on the iPhone (scrolling, transitions, etc) is still much smoother, but that's just a minor annoyance. I did the jailbreak early on, so I get free tethering and access to non-apple app stores. Without some of those features, I probably wouldn't like my iPhone near as much. Randy - check out logmein.com and see if they have Android support yet. Their iPhone app for remote controlling pcs is stellar. There are also several VNC clients I think.
