Re: Charismatic

I have known a number of charismatic types, the movement grew out of the remains of the latter rain and much of their doctrines are similar. Hinn, Copland, Hagin, Myers, and others have emerged from the charismatic movement.

On the issue of doctrine, they are as varied as their assemblies. Many do not even encourage people to seek the Holy Ghost baptism. There are also those that are willing to teach people to speak in tongues. Also, they sometimes seem to have fewer compulsions against immodest clothing. They are also very speedy to tell you just how judgmental you are if you disagree with their lifestyles. They were also the first to encouage the pro homosexual chuches, although this was a minority even in the charismatic movement.

I agree with this. The Charismatic Movement is entirely different from from Classical Pentecostalism. However the term "charismatic" by itself is not neccessarily associated with the "Charismatic Movement". If you speak in tongues and believe in spiritual gifts then you would be considered charismatic by the religious world, howbeit probably not part of the Charismatic Movement.

Just want to affirm again...I am a conservative Apostolic! The term charismatic has nothing to do with standards! I believe in strong holiness standards as a necessity!! lol

Abortion can be performed at many Planned Parenthood clinics for just over $200... money that even most teens can get.

Just sayin....

I'll say this in kindness, because I know you are young, and you are new to this site.....but, you are making some very strong accusations against a great man of God and a great church. Just because they don't promote the extra-biblical standards you grew up with does not make them "no different than the world" or "backslidden". I know Rex, and I have family in leadership in that church, and I can most assuredly tell you that they are doing a great work to reach people.

So, you would do yourself a favor to refrain from the accusations concerning their salvation, which incidentally, only God knows. And, that goes for us all.

If you're lost maybe. Why do you say this? This is a loaded question.

Look at this focus well, please, Unregistered. The fruit of Western Christianity. Please don't think I'm blaming you, or anything, Seth, this feeling is practically universal, even among Christians. Arg.

Why or why not?

Does the word "charismatic" take away from Apostolic Holiness in any way?
To me the term "charismatic" speaks of a believer who has the baptism of the Holy Ghost, may or may not be Oneness, and definitely doesn't hold to the traditions of the Holiness Movement.

I have no issue with being called Charismatic. I'd prefer to just be called a Christian.

Re: Charismatic

For Seth--
There is a difference in classic Pentecostalism and classic Charismatic. We have been out of UPC for almost 21 years, and UPC people call us "Charismatic", but we are definitely NOT. I don't even know how to explain the difference, but you know it when you are in it. Last night, we had an old fashioned Holy Ghost service and at least five people were baptized in the Holy Ghost, people were drunk in the Spirit, and most of the women were in jeans, including me (pastor's wife). Does that mess with you??

I'm tired of labels. We have an on fire church that I wouldn't trade for anything. God is here and we have seen lives changed almost weekly. We don't preach a watered down message - if you don't believe it, listen online lately. Just because we don't fit in your mold doesn't make us backslidden or lost.

As far as Rex Johnson, he is a wonderful man of God who preaches truth. You shouldn't talk about him unless you've visited there and experienced his church yourself. And........there is SIN in every church. Look around in UPC - it's there too.

Re: Charismatic

Makes me mad when people try to kill each other...and especially when they name names...
We are all different...let's all respect each other and be kind...and sin is in every church...lol...dressed like a nun does not kill the flesh....go read the BOOK again....
