Yeah, but Timmy's always fallen down the well or lost in the woods somewhere. That's his only downside. That and his collie constantly barking at us.

Hang a sign around her neck next time, Timmy! We can't understand what she's trying to tell us and it just gets annoying.

Too many church boards function like too many churches - people in a clique running all aspects and knowing they can count on everyone saying yea or nay, as directed. Many boards have "risen to the level of their incompetence." So, if I had a church board, and I don't (probably to the relief of many), I would certainly want to meet with Timmy. We could decide together if it was a good thing.

"Risen to the level of their incompetence." That's great!

For what it's worth, our drummer and one of our guitarist are not Christians and they bring a lot of people to church. I enjoy having them around and they frequently offer observations that are very helpful. The non-Christian guitarist is in my Sunday Night Bible Study group and the drummer often gives me tips on what would get more people to attend.

Church boards are frequently a hornet's nest of trouble. There are a lot of bible-thumpers who have been on church boards that have destroyed the church. I think putting someone like Timmy on the board would be a breath of fresh air and without knowing Timmy well enough to say "Absolutely, he'd be on my board", there's nothing I know about him, to this point, that would keep me from inviting him to be on the board. Furthermore, from what I know, I think I could say that Timmy would truly have the church's best interests at heart and would give very good advice for its advancement.

No, I would not.

The church would have to vote him on. And while I don't vote, I most certainly do lobby.
