We'll have family stuff, but then we want to take the boys somewhere. So we are trying to decide between two places.
1. New York City...(actually we'll be in Connecticut with the Bassetts, but will go to NYC and see some things)
a. It will be cold
b. we'll see the statue of liberty and other things there
2. Ft. Lauderdale, FL....we'll be staying with my aunt and then we'll go to the Keys, as she has a "Shack" there.
a. It will be warm there
b. we can go to the keys and ride the boat
c. we can go down to mile marker 1 and only be 90 miles from Cuba
d. we can go swimming...she has a pool and then go "swimming" in the ocean
It will cost a lot of money to go either place, but what do you think?

This one is easy! Have Bro Basset bring pictures of the Statue of Liberty and meet you in the keys.
PS I have some short pants CS can wear on the beach (34 waist)

I LOVE NYC, and have been at all times of the year. The coldest we ever were was once in December. But last year I went on December 12 and it was in the fifties, so you never know. However, you do run the risk of your plans being ruined/cancelled with blizzards in NY. Personally, I don't think your boys would enjoy NY as much as the ocean, but that's just my opinion. They might get bored after a couple days in the city. I, on the other hand, could stay for weeks and never be bored, if I had that much money!
Fort Lauderdale is great! It's one of my favorite places to visit too. I like it so much better than Miami. There is a restaurant there called "Sea Watch" that is my favorite and it's been there for years, I guess. They consistently have amazing food. The ocean there is not nearly as pretty as it is on the Gulf Coast, but it's nice. Have your boys been to the Panhandle of Florida where it's all white sand? The beach at FLL is more brown.
I also love NYC although I have not been for a few years now. You have a very hard choice as the Florida trip sounds awesome also.
NYC around Christmas would be cold and more "Christmassy". It is also a cool experience for kids and adults. I highly recommend the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium. The kids will dig the cool things like the big dinosaur bones, meteorites, etc.
On the other hand kids always enjoy swimming in pools and the ocean and that might be a nice break from winter weather.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

Oh, and the Keys are interesting. If you are in Key West, then be prepared for your boys to see some very weird characters, and even more if you take them out at night. I saw some of the strangest people I'd ever seen when we were in Key West. I wasn't a fan of that place AT ALL, but it was cool to stand at the most southern tip of the U.S.

I LOVE TO TRAVEL!
My aunt actually lives in Davie, FL. Her husband just died in February very unexpectedly. It was really sad. Anyway, her daughter wants us to come and be there especially since this will be the first Christmas without him. (THe boys would be a distraction and all that)
My boys have never been to FL, so it will all be cool with them. They are having a hard time deciding and so am I.
I would love to see the Bassetts, but my aunt has never got to meet my boys and I would like for them to have that opportunity.
My cousin called and talked to me today and would love to surprize her Mom, but we don't know. Hubby doesn't really want to go, but will go for the kids and me, so having a hard time deciding.
I think Christmas in NYC would be awesome, not to mention New Year's Eve! Been talking about going, for the last few years. Hey, if you go, we'll go too and we can hang out together!

Since you would be helping your Aunt get through her first Chrismtas without her hubby and that is a noble thing to do PLUS it is something your hubby doesn't want to do....I would do it!!!!
The kids would love getting to be around the ocean and warm weather in December.
Tell your hubby he can find some ultra con preachers there to spend his time with and have a good time (I don't think he is going to find any fellow coonhunters in that part of Florida so he is going to have to settle for preachers)
