Sunday morning I am speaking at my pastor's special meeting. He has been my pastor since I was 7...lol....he started pastoring real young and my folks were some of his first converts. He is 75 years old.
I am going to read about the river that flowed out of Eden..
Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.[...] The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
I want to show how a persons life can be like a river and divide into many rivers...
Any suggestions?

I have read (and since used ) the thought that perhaps God does not reward us for our good works until the end of time because it will only be then that the totality of our works, impact, and efforts will be known. For people like him, their works continue for generations and generations after them. That is the true beauty of service, sacrifice, and legacy in the Kingdom.
I have also used the candle as an example of this and how one candle can light so many candles without losing any of its own flame. In doing so, the candle has not only touched and influenced many people, it has insured that the flame will live beyond the candle. That is how giving enshrines the giver.
Now reading what I wrote, it sounds more fitting for a memorial service. Perhaps you can use one of the two thoughts in some way though...

I had several thoughts but one that stands out is how the Lord pours Himself into our lives with the Holy Spirit so that we can pour out ourselves into the lives of others and that it is God's plan that in due time we will cover the earth with the love of Christ in the same way that water covers... streams to rivers and rivers to oceans.

Sincere but maybe too corny?
I would love to hear you speak
I like it, but people say I'm corny...you might want to wait for a second opinion.

I think that our lives reflect a river in that they begin higher up in the mountains, the source, strength from a higher source, snow from the mountains, very reminiscent of our strength from God above.
The river then flows downward on it's journey to the sea, collecting water from rain and other streams. I think collecting water from other streams is like picking up experiences along the journey and the rain throughout feeds us, like God's Spirit, giving us strength.
