...was it God? Or was it something else? Was it both? Does it vary from event to another?
To most of my FB friends, every time something good happens, it was God. Every. Single. Time.
So, discuss.
I believe in a sovereign God who manages all things through divine providence. Therefore, in my mind, all of our hairs are numbered. Our very days are numbered (and pre-recorded, for lack of a better term). We can't add an hour to our lives. And the blade of grass doesn't bend with the wind unless God has ordained it to be so.
Therefore... all things are from God. Both what we might call good and what we might call evil.

You are a silly, silly man.
(God made me type that. )

The Lord makes it to rain on the Just and the unjust alike.
Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?
I was about to post a follow-up question, but you answered it right there. Was going to ask if God does good things for unbelievers, as well as to believers.
Yes.
Of course he does. And (according to some) he does mean things to both, too. I guess.
Oh, but we humans aren't really qualified to say whether something that happens is good or bad. I guess.

Hebrews 13:23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty
One time I went to Church and this man got up and testified.
He said that his family were going to get something to eat before they went home. He was so mad because they had to wait for like an hour for their food. When they got done and went home they found their house had burnt down. The fire chief told him their was some kind of gas explosion that destroyed his house and what was left caught fire. The fire chief told him if him and his family where home they would have been killed.
So the moral of the story is that bad service at a restaurant can be a blessing from God.

Nowadays you get on the internet!
We often think the world is a world of chaos, and we pray that God helps us. The truth is... God is in absolute control. What God hasn't determined to be... has been ordained to be. There is nothing that you could ever face that hasn't passed over His desk. Therefore, you can be assured that all things are in accordance to His divine plan and providence. And although it may not look good... you can still rejoice because it will ultimately work for your good, if you love God and are called according to His purposes.

If I truly believe I'm a child of God, and I do, then I must believe that my Father in heaven only gives good gifts to me as His child, as a son of God. In that sense, nothing is bad from God, there is only good.
