The Welsh Bible

In 1588 Queen Elizabeth commissioned the Bible to be translated into Welsh. Having the bible in the Welsh language sparked religious fervor in Wales resulting in world wide impact.

Two religions groups came into being as a result of the Welsh bible: The Puritans and the Methodists.

Oliver Cromwell was a puritan who sparked a revolution that resulted in the death of a Monarch and a major reformation of British Monarchy and Government

The Methodists inspired religious fervor throughout the UK and North America.

Quote:
It was Queen Elizabeth 1st who made the William Morgan translation possible, through an Act of Parliament commanding Welsh bishops to make the Bible available in Welsh. Though some historians complain that this was only a political action so that Elizabeth could manipulate them into closer compliance, this is opinion rather than known fact. In fact, she and her courtiers were worried that the Welsh were very slow to adopt English, which kept them out of the English political scene. Thus, the new Welsh version was placed side-by-side with the English version, in the hope that both languages would be used!

The 1904–1905 Welsh Revival was the largest Christian revival in Wales during the 20th century. While by no means the best known of revivals, it was one of the most dramatic in terms of its effect on the population, and triggered revivals in several other countries. "The movement kept the churches of Wales filled for many years to come, seats being placed in the aisles in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Swansea for twenty years or so, for example. Meanwhile, the Awakening swept the rest of Britain, Scandinavia, parts of Europe, North America, the mission fields of India and the Orient, Africa and Latin America."[1]
