Here is one for you all, just what exactly does the following verse mean.
Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Just what are we to train our children in that they won't depart from it? Doctrines of our church? Or the basic fundementals of being a good citizen, right from wrong. Not the so called standards of our church.

See all my life I only heard verse 6 quoted and it was preached if we raised our children in the UPCI with all its standards etc that when they grew up they would stay in UPCI. As if this was some special formula to keep our children in the beleif that we keep to be true.

I was two when my mom came into UPCI, I recieved the holy ghost when I was seven carried licence with them for 10 years and started a church in UPCI. My mom still thinks I will come back because she raised me according to the doctrines of the church. Not. My wife and I attend a great church and all my children and their spouses are saved and love God and are raising my grandchildren to love God. But I did not raise them exactly the same way I was raised. And we all left UPCI about 6 years ago.

I really find that hard to believe, I grew up in a UPCI church and I never heard that before. Strange to me that anyone would think that being a member of a church is what that scripture meant.

The point being how some old time Pentecostal preachers and some not so old time preachers will take a verse out of context and preach what they are trying to get accross instead of preaching the word plain and simple.
