Re: Church of Champions and Christian Tabernacle

Pentecostal: any one or group that believes the baptism of the Holy Ghost is evidenced by speaking in tongues

Charismatic: any one or group that believes in the receiving and excercize of any one of the 9 gifts of the Spirit

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: Church of Champions and Christian Tabernacle

I personally have not shunned the "charismatic" term as some have.

Life is too short to play word games.

Re: Church of Champions and Christian Tabernacle

What is the Exploding Pulpipt? My friend WAS a member of Church of Champions and she said that COC left the UPC because of standards. A person does not lose standard convictions just because they don't think they are important anymore, it is usually the result of a deeper issue.

Any why would you leave an organization such as the UPC? Just wondering.
Every organization has it's problems. The problem with the UPC is that there is no central control; each pastor pretty much does whatever and nobody will know if it's in line or not unless some saint of God pipes up and says "hey hold on a minute." This is bad because many "ministers" have abused their authority and then everybody thinks it's a reflection on the church as a whole and it's not. Sad, but true. However, I think the UPC is grounded on doctorinal truth. Just my opinion.

Result of a deeper issue... like... grasping "by grace are ye saved?" or maybe something like "not of works..." Or how 'bout realizing that most of these "standards" are commandments of men based on faulty interpretation and poor hermeneutic.

Or thinking that they could build a bigger church if they got rid of those pesky standards.

Sometimes people never had "standard convictions", they were just convinced to follow or believe them because their pastor said so. When they studied the bible and came to the conclusion that they were not biblical they would find another church or pull out of that organization that believed in "standards"

BTW the bible never uses the term "Holiness Standards"

Or thinking that legalism saves no one.

It never uses the term trinity either.
But a lot of people here certainly feel the need to defend "trinitarians".
