Actually the sperm cell WOULD be divine in this case. Where else would it come from? Now, Mary's egg would be entirely human, unlike those who propose the divine flesh theory and claim that Mary contributed NO DNA to Jesus's body.

Re: Docetism
dont think there was a divine sperm cell, God didnt need divine sperm cells to create adam in the beginning, who had no human parents, and he was all human.
same with Jesus the baby came miraculous by the Power of God.
just as John said to the pharasees " dont think you can save yourself by calling yourself children of abraham" for God can make from these rocks descendants of abraham.
a man on another forum i post on talked about the angel of the Lord actually had sex with mary and made her pregnant. which would through the whole virgin shall be with child out the window.
some dont believe that is was a miraculous birth at all, insisting that the geneology trees of both matthew and luke point to joseph as the human father, yet but was adopted by God, which throws out the verse that he waited to the kid was born until to actualy solidified his marriage.
in any case it was miracuolous but he had to be human, so he has to get that from his Mother. Cause through His mother he was made the seed of David, even though one of the geneology tree tries to show it was through Joesph.
Since Joseph really was the one who adopted Jesus, some play into the fact that josephs first actual son was the true seed of david and not Jesus.
But if we go back to Genesis, God makes note of Her seed, which i think goes nicely with it

Re: Docetism
The UPCI has done little or nothing about hardcore docetists. I know of one here in Texas that when the resolution against docetism passed, went to the Texas General Super of that time and asked if he was going to be forced out. The super said no, and to this day TB is still an ordained minister in the UPCI.
What do I think of docetism? Blasphemous heresy. The body of Christ was holy, but it was still human. To deny this brings into question the true death on the Cross. Sorry, but I still hold to the old school belief, as found in scripture, of Jesus being fully God and fully man.

if he was not human then where is the blood for the sacrifice, or the blood of the new covenant.
in hebrews with out the shedding of blood their can be no remission. it isnt a good doctrine, and many scriptures talk about Jesus being in flesh

Re: Docetism
We do we think that God used a divine sperm and Mary's egg? I've always just invisioned God sovereignly creating a human zygote in Mary's body. No egg or sperm necessary.

Agreed. Am I mistaken to believe that divine flesh would be the result of a divine sperm cell? or maybe a half god, like the son of Zeus?
