Wow, you didn't soak it for very long, but I'm sure you had to get to the doctor.
Just curious as to what some of yall might think. Its been an insane morning around here.. Here is the deal,
9 yr old spent the weekend with my sister. They went to some friends house which involved crossing a creek and climbing some fences that I had told them not to do anymore as I didnt want her getting hurt. Well Sunday night after church I pick her up and she is barely walking. She tells me she hurt her leg but she is fine and went to bed. Said nothing more.
Yesterday morning awakes and is screaming with pain. So I look at the leg and its cut and pretty good however too late for stitches. She had climbed a chain link fence and put the little V part that is at the top into her thigh! So it appears to be fairly healed but... It was seeping clear liquid out so they would not allow her at school (loose bodily fluid is a no no) so I kept her home yesterday... She felt fine but for the pain.
Today I wake her up for school. She is sick to her stomach and running a fever. Her tetnus is current however we do have an appointment to get a booster this evening. Question is could this be infection from the cut (it is black(the black at first looked like just dried blood that had been there from the initial cut) in the direct area with red all around but not like red lines just red from being hurt????) Does this sound like what you would get from a severe cut and infection or do you think I am messing with 2 different things? BTW Also very nauseas
Kind of wondering whether to take her to the ER or if she can wait till afternoon fine for the dr.
Yeah, take her to the doc for antibiotics and a shot.

Infection goes into the bloodstream, so soaking it won't help.
When I had blood poisoning in my foot the doctor had me soak a hand towel in salt water, wrap it around my foot, put a bread sack over it, and wrap a heating pad around it and elevate my leg for 2 weeks. Was only allowed up to go to the bathroom. It worked.

That's all you did? No medication or anything?

You're right, but it does help at the outset of a cut.
Yes, that much it does. It helps the immediate area, just as doing any kind of wound care, but antibiotics are usually prescribed as well.
When I had my brain surgery, I had an incision in my abdomen where the shunt tubing was placed. I developed a staph infection there that was so bad it required another surgery.
I cleansed the wound with normal saline and covered it, doing so twice a day, but that just prevented it from getting worse. The surgeon cut out the area of infection and rerouted my tubing to the other side of my abdomen, and I was on IV antibiotics.
So in a way, saline soaks and cleansing does help, but if someone is running a fever, chances are, the infection is systemic and antibiotics are needed.

I just got back! It was quick and simple... Indeed infected they gave her a tetnus booster and an antibiotic shot and then antibiotics to take... The fever is almost totally gone... one of those she has it until you walk into the dr office things !!! LOL
