I agree that kids need to be taught to do their part to help around the house. I have the same problem with Walt in that area. He would rather do something himself than to take the time to work with the boys to teach them how to do it. I've taught them housekeeping stuff, but they need to know things like how to clean the gutters, how to maintain the lawnmower, how to trim trees, etc. I keep saying that if we fail to teach them those things and they go into adulthood without those skills, then we've failed them. But he just goes on and does them himself anyway. Oh well. What can I say?

No, I didn't realize it's hard work. Of course I know it's hard work. Who do you think does the bulk of the training around here? Didn't you read the thread about my daughter and her issues with math? Who do you think is the one dealing with that issue? Also, she works part time at Wendy's as a cashier. I would hardly consider that hard work, although it is hard on the feet (at least for good lookin fat people like me) She likes her job, even though she fought me tooth and nail about applying there. Now she gets to eat all kinds of delicious grease loaded food, like baconaters, chicken sandwiches, etc. The other day she brought me home a shake. MMMMMMMMMM! Delicious!

BTW, ladies, I do need to let y'all in on a little something. My wife was never taught how to do a lot of the things most of us would take for granted. It's not that her mom was a bad mom, but they were in a really bad situation when my wife was young. So bad that she got taken away for a time and put in foster care, which only made things worse. I've had to give her training on so many things it isn't even funny. I'm not saying that as a chauvenist either. I say it as the man who loves her enough to want to see her overcome the life she had to endure while she was growing up. It's been tough, to say the least. How do you teach someone to have enough pride in themselves to keep their hair combed? Those are the kinds of battles we've fought and won together, so I am very proud of her and thankful for the way God has turned her life around. So, please don't think ill of me for saying she's the one who gets to clean the house, because that is pretty much the only thing required of her around these parts. Well, that and givin me more lovin than any man could handle. She's a good woman and I thank God that he saw fit to stick us together. Like that Huey Lewis song says, "I am happy to be stuck with you."

Hehe! I hear ya. My son is 16 and has been the main one I have given the "manly" kind of training to. His sister is now 12 so I have started teaching her some things, like about changing tires, using a pair of pliers, etc. I pick on my son a lot 'cause she gets this stuff way better than he did at her age.

I'm away from my wife weeks at a time, that just drives me nuts to be seperated like this. She also works, but unlike you she has to do everything in the house. I'm really spoiled though, because when I am home I sometimes get in trouble for doing things because it makes her feel as though I don't think she's a good house keeper. (She keeps the floor clean enough to eat off of she is so neat) There is never anything out of place! But if I help she assumes that I think she's not doing a good enough job. Nothing can be further from the truth, I just want to help out on the rare occations that I can.
