Teaching on personal evangelism and spiritual gifts is underdone.
And I dare say that the mere fact that many of those conservatives frown upon interracial marriages tells me they are not in tune with the Spirit of God as much as they might think they are.

And another excellet post, TR. I totally agree with you!

"But grow in Grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to him be glory now and forever..."
It is amazing to me how many folks believe they are done growing in that grace and knowledge, and then teach folks to like them attain that unattainable bar.
It breeds oppression and a group and culture of folks that are easy to control and manipulate because they can simply never measure up.

Just a note of thought...
I personally believe that teaching on standards is underdone. Here is my reason of thought
Too many these days just get up and banter about do it this way or hit the highway. I don't believe that at all. If you were to ask those types of people to teach a bible study on WHY they preach the things (such as standards) they do, they more than likely will not be able to do so. Whereas they may be an hour preacher, they may not be able to teach standards more than 15 mins.
That is my opinion. I teach standards. I try to be as balanced as I can and I don't teach things just because my friends do so or my pastor does so.
More later....

I hate the word standards. It comes with such baggage. In fact I remember a well known preacher saying at GC "our standards of holiness"...OUR Standards?
I agree however HOLINESS is undertaught. Standards is over preached.
Inward Holiness is undertaught and underpreached.
True Holiness is more about Character than it is about clothing albeit how we dress or do anything at all should be a reflection of the true inner man

- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: A Conservative With Valid Concerns !
I think I'm on the fence on this one. Standards of dress and appearance are important, but can easily turn into a foil one hides behind. "Churches of all descriptions are susceptible to placing more emphasis on style and polish than consecration and anointing. I see the "bunker mentality," but I also see people become completely sucked under when they turn loose of the rudder.
It sort of looks like things are experiencing a great shaking, doesn't it?

Re: A Conservative With Valid Concerns !
I have a question for 1 Cor. Is it just the few conservatives that are against inter racial wedlock? Do all liberals support inter racial matrimony? Just wondering because it seems like you've singled out the conservatives because of your bad experience on CAF.

I think a lot of liberals are against it too...People are people no matter what camp you are in...there are no perfect camps...because there are NO perfect people...

One of the most common misnomers in Pentecost today is people that liken standards and holiness. They are not the same.
Holiness is the nature of God. "Be ye holy for I am Holy." You cannot get holy by putting clothes on though you can become unholy by taking them off. If one has a problem with seperation from the world then they have a problem with God. God chose the principle of seperation. He said that His people would be seperate "from all the people that are upon the face of the earth." Standards protects the holiness of God. Without them, you lose His nature. Therefore, the word "standard" does not scare me.
What scares me is people that harp on standards, yet never teach them. They don't know how to teach them. Standards must be taught. Holiness must be taught. Evangelism must be taught!

This question is for anyone, but this post made me think of it.
Do you think standards should ever be taught in the normal church service? I will leave the 'if at all' for another one of many discussions.
(Accepting the premise that they should be addressed at some point, I do NOT believe they should ever be taught during the course of a normal service. ONLY during special new convert classes while kept separate from the rest of the congregation.)
