Was Moses telling the whole truth, when he told Pharaoh they wanted to go a three days journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices? Was it true that God would punish the Israelites if they didn't take this journey and offer sacrifices? When they left, did they offer sacrifices three days later?

Hebrews 13:23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty
Good question, I'm not sure OT would be the sure standard to go by, them folks did all kinds of stuff.
Nazis and slave-owners were after the Old Testament.
And it's a serious question. No easy answer. If you were hiding a young teenage slave girl, you knew the owner knocking on your door was going to brutalize her, severely beat her and worse... could you with good integrity hand her over to him?
Nazis banging on your door in the middle of the night..... "Are there Jews hiding here?" You know you'd be delivering them up to be murdered?

For sure life can bring us some serious difficult situations. Doing right isn't always easy.
I think we have to set the foundation is it ok for a Christian to lie? That has to be determined first.

The most deadly sins do not leap upon us, they creep up on us.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Perhaps what is at issue isn't so much the deed... but the thoughts and intents of the heart. For example, if you lied to protect Jews from Nazis is not your "lie" a weapon to protect? Your intention was to protect and save lives from evil men.
Now, if you lied on your taxes that's a bigger issue. You see, government has the right to demand taxes and the Apostle Paul even admonishes Christians to pay their taxes (Romans 13). If your family cannot afford food after paying taxes.... the question becomes, "Where is your church?" Every church should have the capability of providing food for needy families. If not, there are a number of food banks to turn to.
