Years ago, in a church I was in, they's tell a seeker, "all that call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" , then tell to them to say it faster and faster , louder and louder.

If that didn't get then tongue talking they'd tell to say, "Walidue", explaining that that meant Thank God in french, and they'd sound that way when they spoke in tongues.

This was in a church that left the UPC 37 years ago because the UPC was to liberal.

I'm so proud of our heritage

I have seen "chin wigglers"

I also remember people getting folks at the altar to say Jesus faster & louder...

They would tell them... "Just say JesuJesuJesuJesuJesuJesuJesuJesuJesuJesu"

They were saying it so fast they didn't have time to get that last S in.

In the "Be Ye Perfect" thread Michael The Disciple used the term Yeshua.

To which AtlantaBishop replied...

My question...

Now why on earth would you say that?

Names are universal.

When I call the lady at the restaurant up town Juanita should I speak to her in spanish?

Why we use a translation of a translation is a bit of a wonder to me.

Names are generally not translated these days. Apparently they were back then.

But I certainly can't see why one would find themselves incorrect for using a pronunciation that is truer to the original name given.

The name spoken by the angel is nearly (if not exactly) the same as the name of the OT Joshua. Why did they end up sounding so differently? Moses had to stay behind and only Joshua (Y@howshuwa` {yeh-ho-shoo'-ah}) could lead them over into the promised land. Joshua was a type of Christ and shares the same basic name with Christ.

One is now called Joshua (sounding very reminiscent of the original pronunciation although there was no "J" sound back then) and one is now called Jesus (bearing almost no resemblance to the original pronunciation)

And we... the "people of the name" criticize one for trying to utter a pronunciation closest to the name the angel demanded Mary give to the Messiah?

Why would we do that?

Any thoughts?
The name of Jesus denotes his Sonship and his dying on the Cross.

If you put the name of Jesus into Isaiah chapter 12:2

It reads Behold God is my salvation - (Joshua- Hebrew) (Jesus in Greek), I will trust , and not be afraid. for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song and he also had become by salvation - (Joshua-Hebrew) (Jesus - In Greek).

Verse 4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord call upon "his" name (Jesus), declare his (Jesus) doings among the people make mention that his name (Jesus) is exalted.

To connect that to Paul in the New testement,

Act 4:12 Neither is their salvation (There is that word again from Isaiah 12) in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men , whereby we must be saved.

To use the name JHWH or Jehovah or does not denote the crucified power...

Sounds alot like foolish talking and jesting to me.I know most pentecostals are good at it.Eph.5:3: But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;4: Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.5: For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God
