I am amazed at the biblical ignorance of those claiming to be Holy Ghost filled.

Re: Social drinking?

Well guys, go ahead and talk yourself into drinking as Christians, but I just dont see it here....Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance:

But I do see it here.......19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

For the record, drinking became a sin under the puritan and later Holiness people long before Topeka or Azusa

We inherited it when much of the Holiness crowd became Pentecostals

You are obfuscating..

The topic is drinking not drunkeness.

You equivocated the two.

Ok Prax, what is the level of God's breathalizer test(legal limit) to measure drunkenness?

I haven't seen anyone here argue it's ok to get drunk. Now you are trying to shift the burden of proof

Did you know that in bible times wine was the most common drink for everyone? They often cut it with water. The alcohol killed the pathogens.

You would have to drink a lot to get drunk

The most common mixture was wine diluted with water. The ratio of water to wine varied, but the quantity of water was almost always greater than that of wine. The favored mixture for the Greeks was one part wine and three parts water. The normal drink at meals at Qumrân was wine (tîrôš) after it was blessed (1QS 6:4ff.; 1QSa 2:17f, 20; 1QH 10:24). During Roman times the ordinary table beverage was wine mixed with water (see Ferguson). Since the water was not always completely safe to drink, mixing wine with water had a purifying effect on the water (cf. 1 Tim. 5:23). Wine mixed with myrrh was offered to Jesus as He hung from the cross (Mk. 15:23), but He refused to drink it. Did 13:6 mentions wine mixed with oil.

Bandstra, B. L. (1979–1988). Wine. In G. W. Bromiley (Ed.), . Vol. 4: The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, Revised (G. W. Bromiley, Ed.) (1070). Wm. B. Eerdmans.

People drink a glass of wine with dinner all the time and don't get intoxicated. There's not enough alcohol in most wines to do that.
