Re: Duggar interview

I would have to make some tough decisions to be sure. My first concern would be to the ones that were victimized. I would make sure they got counseling and therapy from a certified and respected therapist. The 14 year old would have to answer for what he did and be removed from unsupervised contact with those he took advantage of in addition to facing punishment legally and some intense therapy.

Whether I am liberal or conservative makes no difference here. All it does is add to the "My side is better than yours" narrative.

Here is a article that I feel addresses the issue well.

Re: Duggar interview

Another point I'd like to make is that maybe this is a reason why having a excessive number of kids where the older kids are in charge of the younger kids may lead to some dangers...just a thought.

So maybe you understand why they chose the route they did. I was a DCF caseworker and I can tell you contacting the authorities would have destroyed this family. They probably would have accused the parents of neglect and child endangerment, removed all the kids from custody. Since the kids were so many they would have had to have been separated and placed in different foster homes thus limiting their contact with each other. It would have taken years for the parents to ever get DCF off their back. It's so easy to judge others in cases like this, but until you are in their shoes you shouldn't judge. The boy was never violent and sought help. You think he should have been arrested? You think he owed some debt to society?

One thing is sure. This grown man Joshua Duggar cannot be blamed for how things were handled as he was a child and under his parents' authority.

And what do you do with previous generations of Americans where having 12 and 13 kids was the norm? It seems you are advocating more government involvement based on "what might happen".

Is there any scientific research that would point to a greater likelihood of sibling sex abuse in larger families?
