"Closed" is referring to Apple trying to "protect" the user from the hardware. Apples way or the highway is a phrase commonly heard among developers.
When things work, they work... when they don't it is MUCH harder to diagnose and repair then on a PC.
I also cannot stand the one-button/minimalism so popular with Jobs and Apple designers.

Windows 7 is FAR superior to Vista (which wasn't that bad to begin with in my opinion). The many beta's that have been release over the past year are already far more stable then Vista's own release candidate.
