So, God worked through men to make the rule: "thou shalt not watch TV"
Then... the internet up and happened, I am guessing it caught God by surprise since he didn't work through men to make up the rule: "thou shalt not use the internet" By the time God thought of it the horse was already out of the barn and three counties away.
Uh huh.
God gave the Isrealites the commandments through Moses. Why didn't they ask him, "Are you sure taht's what God told you?"

How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

I don't consider my self a scholar or anything but isnt the bible meant as a book of guidance and teachings. Are we going to do everything EXACTLY the same way it was done in the bible...NO. Paul and Moses were men just like we are who had a way of thinking and choices just like us. Im not taking away from the importance of the Bible but you cant possibly do everything JUST LIKE THEY DID.

11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.
just sayin
So I ask the question again...why do we need pastors? If God can't give authority to men to lay down some guidelines for teh church, then we're in trouble. Paul didn't seem to have a problem setting standards for teh churches, and he didn't always quote scripture.

I think Pastors should lay down those quidlines that are found in the Bible. If the Pastor says "I think" we should do this or that then so be it but NO Pastor should make something Heaven or Hell if God doesnt!
The command to “Rule” the church is sometimes taken to extremes in my opinion. A pastor’s official responsibility is to govern the church along with the elders, and his focus should be primarily spiritual: matters such as edifying believers and equipping the saints to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12) are a pastor’s main concern. We have all heard of pastors who seem more dictatorial than shepherd-like, requiring those under their authority to seek their permission before making an investment, going on vacation, etc. Such men, it seems to me, simply desire control and are not fit to rule the church of God.

God provided the ministry, but he also provided detailed instructions for the ministry...limits of authority, duties, expected character traits etc.
Things like: don't preach for personal gain, and one I particularly like: don't be Lord's over God's heritage.
Pastor doesn't mean "Church Boss" like so many of the rule makers seem to think.

One point you are missing here - - - the Israelites didn't have GOD living in them like we do now.
God can speak to a minister now to give guidance and instructions, but God isn't giving ministers new RULES that you have to have to make it to heaven.
God is NOT the author of confusion.
Bro. A in Mississippi gets a word that wearing wedding rings are a sin.
Bro. B in Ohio didn't get that word.
How do you explain that?

Some churches need more standards than others. For instance, one man takes a stand on wild hair styles, because the homosexuals in his part of the world wear their hair that way. In another part of the world, it's not a problem because the hairstyle doesn't reflect that identity. Wedding rings are not a salvific issue, but it is difficult for someone to maintain a stand on jewelry, and allow wedding rings. The same with short sleeves.
I know what you're thinking at this point, so let me clarify. This is not the case with something as clear as someone deliberately disobeying the scriptures. If something new comes along that defies God's commandment, we have a right to preach against it. I believe that Television is a salvific issue, because we shouldn't set anything wicked before our eyes. New types of clothing have come out that directly violate Paul's immodest apparel statement. We have a right to preach these things. When it comes to this, if so and so doesn't receive the revelation like I have, I'm not responsible for that man's ignorance. He has the same Bible that I've got, and he's read the verses that I mentioned.
