Re: Christian people listening to secular music
Scott Hutchinson, you are the most worldly and secular person here! Hee-Hee! Love ya, Brother. And, hey, do me a favor.... find about 30 YouTube videos of your favorite music and post them here. Thank you, Brother.
Now, for Hometown or Homegrown... A song that celebrates the love between a man and his wife, or somethng along those lines, would you consider them secular and worldly, and therefore, by default, sinful?
In other words, would you consider the Song of Solomon sinful?

No not all music is sin but its very beneficial to listen to only christian music.

Re: Christian people listening to secular music
Usually all I listen to his Gospel music. let me rephrase that... Usually all I listen to his Southern Gospel music. I'm a child of the 70's so the Hinsons, Goodmans, Hemphills, Inspirations, etc are at the top of my list. Yes, I know I'm old fashioned. I'm old. Get over it.
But sometimes, "secular and worldly" music reaches out and grabs me. Allison Krauss (?) singing "When you say nothing at all". I heard this just after I met my wife. Billy Joel singing, "She has a way about her". I heard that just days before I buried my wife. Vince Gill singing, "Go rest on the mountain", sung at my wifes funeral. Secular and worldly? Perhaps. Sinful? Absolutely not. Spiritual? As spiritual as it gets.
Reminds me of a "secular and worldly" book I read: "The Education of Little Tree" by Forrest Carter. Best book I've ever read. I rate it up there close to the Bible. I suggested someone to read it and she said, "Is it religious? I only read religious books.". I said, "No, not religious, but you'll see more of God in that book than alot of religious books you read".
I agree, though. I steady diet of secular and worldly music can cause "the lamp of God to go out in the temple". But so can a steady diet of just about anything. (iIncluding church, remember Eli's sons?) Thats why the word BALANCE was invented.

Do you sing the Star Spangled Banner when you're at ball games?
Uh, wait a minute......never mind.

Then they didn't have much of a relationship with Jesus to start with. If their relationship with Christ was so fragile that some great Foo Fighters or Coldplay stuff brought it down, then they needed a LOT more than K-love.
If one listens to "Fix you" by Coldplay, or "What I've Done" by Linkin Park, and does NOT have a deeply spiritual moment, then one either doesn't know Jesus to start with or doesn't know much about Him.
