Re: Ice Cream Sundae Bar - Suggestions?
Truth be told, saturated fat (natural, God-given fats from animals, dairy, coconuts, avocados, etc.) will significantly RAISE HDL ("good" cholesterol). Eliminating sugar/carbs will drastically decrease Triglycerides ("bad" cholesterol). LDL and total cholesterol #'s are meaningless, as they are only a calculation rather than a direct measurement of your cholesterol. You would have to have a VAP test to find out the true make-up of your cholesterol to find out if you are Pattern A (good), Pattern A/B (so-so) or Pattern B (not good). My hubby's total cholesterol is over 300, but his HDL is 72 (GREAT) and his Triglycerides is 52 (TREMENDOUS) and he is Pattern A (PERFECT)... He eats a very high saturated fat/very low carb/moderate protein diet (has for a couple of years) and is an avid runner (3-8 miles/several times/wk). I can't remember my exact #'s, but my total chol. is over 200 and my HDL/Trig's are both somewhere around 60. I have been eating this way for the past 6-7 years... I've lost around 40 lbs w/o exercise (hubby has lost 45, also while not exercising because, at the time, he was healing from having broken his ankle - as noted above, he runs regularly now/again), improved my cholesterol, and lowered my blood pressure (finally). Sat. fat is not the enemy; in fact, it's the fuel our bodies desire and work best with. It's the sugar and carbs that are killing us.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
