Pel,
Where did you get the idea I was personally attacking UP and owed him an apology. Or that I was referring to men! Are Apostolic Pentecostals only men.
I was raised Apostolic Pentecostal all of my life. Never did I hear any discussion about men or women wearing shorts. If either wanted to, they usually did and you didn't see them in church much longer. Through the years issues have come up and those that didn't like the standards just left and didn't come back.
I am thankful to have been raised Apostolic Pentecostal. My late father was licensed with the UPC, but the church he founded never was in the org. per se. The current pastor is also licensed with the UPC, but the church is not affiliated.

Like I said before, whatever else you say to UP is between the two of you... I (and many others apparently) took exception to the way you ranted about "shorts" and "what's next? Nakedness...?" Logically, you were incoherent. Biblically, you were... well, you were anywhere near the Bible.
Aren't you even the least bit saddened that your church's unBiblical "standard" was responsible for those folks "leaving the church?" How different might things have been had your church embraced Biblical principles? How do you know they left just over "shorts" and such? It could well be that, like so many millions of other literate Christians, they were reading their Bibles and comparing what they heard from your church with what the Bible itself had to say.
I've been in the church for many years, and have always wondered why it's not "ok" for men to wear long shorts...like the ones in the forefront...if it's "ok" for women to wear skirts the same length. But like someone has already mentioned...you guys need to learn how to sit right! I've been sitting in front of guys sitting with long shorts on and have been downright embarrassed!
I think the Lord expects us to be modest, and when you're just a few inches from showing your privates, you're not being modest....male or female!
Good heavens! Why don't we just pray and let the HG lead?
Coming from an Apostolic/Pentecostal background, I have felt the same discomfort around many women and their immodest ways of sitting, etc. I was just thinking the other day, in most social settings I am more comfortable around women who are wearing slacks than women in dresses. And, it's not "lust" that makes me uncomfortable... I'm just not much of an "up-skirt" kind of guy.
Slacks (or "pants") on a woman are far more modest than even a long dress, especially with today's active lifestyles. I won't play even volley-ball with the girls in skirts. Either the game must be tamed down to a polite anarchy of people just tossing a ball around or I've got to take my glasses off.
Really? We have comprimised on so much so why not go a step further? That's your argument? You see...here is the problem with comprimise...there will always be someone saying "let's go just one more step". When comprimise begins...it doesn't end on one or two notes. It will destroy everything that has any appearance at all of the former.
First off...anything that is worn needs to be below the knee. The scripture speaks of the shame of the thigh, that should let us know that it is shameful for any part of the thigh to be shown. The thigh of course is the part of the leg that is above the knee (for those who don't know anatomy). Let's stop trying to redefine modesty. If we continue in the direction we are headed, there will be a day when as long as the genitals are covered one will be considered dressed modestly. Just sayin..
Compromise? Wow, so what's your definition of modesty? And don't answer with "It's whatever God says it is." No, I'd say you're incorrect, because it probably took a man convicting you of it, not God. You, along with others in your mindset, take this way too far.
As far as dressing only to cover the genital area, go ahead and try it. You went that far with it. I'd be concerned about you if you ever decided to redefine modesty. No one here is trying to redefine anything. They're trying to define it FOR THEMSELVES. Not everyone else around them...

I don't think it has anything to do with compromising, because it is a man made rule. Compromising is when you start to slack on biblical principles.

Someone define "biblical principles" please.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
