Re: Kid Preacher (UPC) on Today and Fox and Friend
On one hand, I'd say this is nothing different than a child emulating a parent and wanting to be what the parent is. Like if the father was a police officer and his son started dressing in blues and wearing a play badge and gun acting like his dad.
The difference here is there's no way the kid would be on ride-alongs, making arrests with daddy and pulling people over.
I'm not bothered by the boy wanting to be a preacher and emulating his father and grandfather. I am bothered that they would put him behind the pulpit when he is a boy and doesn't have the capacity to understand the full responsibility of delivering a message. He's a 4 year old boy. Let him be a 4 year old boy. He can wear a suit and tie and yell in a mic later on. For goodness sake, let him play at the park, swing, go down slides and be a kid.

The child is the grandson of the Mississippi District superintendent, Donald Tipton. He pastors in Grenada, Mississippi.
Good folks over all. I went to college with one of his sons.
I think they just did something to be cute and it kind of got out of hand. I don't think that they actually believe the child is preaching but maybe they do.

Yeah - I have known the family a while too - they are really good people and I am sure they let him to things like play in the park, etc. I would think they are smarter than to think he is actually preaching but he needs to quit using words like its a "phenomenon" - because it really isn't

So he's not a licensed minister? Can he read, write sermons?

What also troubles me is the response of the congregation. They are actually falling into the standard emotional experience associated with what they feel is real preaching. This is why such subjective emotionalism can be so dangerous. If a four year old's mimmicking can provoke such a response, so would a false preacher. In most churches I know, they would stand there thinking, "Awwww, how cute!" But I fear some are actually taking this for a move and act of God.

Things like this annoys me and we wonder why so many people will not take Christians seriously. The child was just parroting and mimicking what he has seen all his life. I question the intelligence of the adults who would want to parade a child around like that.
well, I guess you all know how I feel. LOL
I agree with you.

To train that child to do that and afterward heap up such adulation upon him and his parents because of it is akin to what parents do to these little three or four year old girls in making them models.
It is unhealthy and can do nothing but destroy that child when he is older. Anyone here remember Marjo? After the movie, he talked about these perils.
