It should be noted that Jesus rebukes sin in the churches, yet clearly gives them warning and space to repent. One isn't damned the moment they sin, there is a season of grace, accompanied by a warning. Then Jesus begins giving conviction through the Holy Spirit. Then corrective judgments might begin to follow, with additional warning. The church may choose to disfellowship, in hope that shame and remorse might convict enough to bring conviction unto repentance. Then, if one continues in rebellion, an invisible line is drawn. Perhaps this is most frightening. Once that line is crossed, the rebellious backslider is cut off. Now, they're in a lost state, but the Holy Spirit continues to call them home...even protecting the sinner from the enemy. Lastly, if one continues in rebellion, without remorse, cursing the very Spirit calling them, the Spirit departs...leaving them reprobate.
We must be cautious not to condemn one who falls into sin too quickly. Allow God to convict, and seek to counsel. In a war there are battles won...and battles lost. Let's not condemn without offering grace.
