And also, if this was just a cultural thing, why then would Paul be asking "Is it comely for a woman to pray uncovered..." a rhetorical question that begs the answer no! and then go further to APPEAL to nature (man - short hair, woman - long hair) to support his notion of wearing veils?
All I'm saying is that I do not see long hair as a mandate for ladies (if 1 Cor 11 applies today...).

I think you mean you dont see it as a mandate whether it does or does not apply today...?
I am not sure about "mandate" but it still fits nicely with what we know as masculinity, femininity, and distinction of the sexes. I think God is displeased when these distinctions are blurred.
