Re: Are others called to Pastor?

While I didn't always agree with my old Pastor... he once told the funniest story.

A stodgey old gentleman caught him after service one day and said "Pastor, you just have to see this!" He was taken to a dimly lighted corner of the sanctuary where the old coot pointed high into the sky to show him a few cobweb hanging from a corner and remarked "This is just disgraceful... and those girls are paid to clean the church! ... Something needs to be done about this!" To which Pastor replied... "Yes, yes.. I see exactly what you mean... this is just too much for them... Poor girls are so over worked... If you would just go get a broom and a ladder from the janitors closet and get those down Brother, it would be a tremendous help!"...

I laughed so hard I almost broke a rib.

1. Preach better, shake enough hands, hug enough necks & hold enough babies to out do all of the other preachers who were all sent (by God!) to try out for the church.

2. Study, pray and preach!

3. Visit the hospital and nursing homes.

4. Preach funerals.

5. Marry the lovers, dedicate the babies, baptize the unbaptized...(is that a good word?)

6. Pick up snotty kleenex from the sanctuary.

7. Take out the trash.

8. Flush the unflushed commodes in the rest rooms... (Yes, in both!)

9. Be a plumber when the commodes stop up.

10. Turn off all the lights left on by all of those who feel like they should be the Pastor! (Touche!)

11. Change all the filters in the air conditioners.

12. Pick up the Bibles left in the sanctuary.

13. Call and /or write to all of the visitors....(If someone on the team happened to get a card filled out by the visitors.)

14. Pick up trash on the outside.

15. Make sure air conditioners are turn on early enough and turned off afterwards.

Now that, I guess, might cover some of the duties of a Pastor. Biblical? I'll let you decide! But in spite of all the joking around it's one of the greatest honors to be called "Pastor!" I know, "I are one!"

That's funny BT!

However, these are duties the entire church should embrace.

....and I've always thought that since I've come here...

whether you pastor or not pastor.

BT - wish there were more people involved in the five-fold ministry who had hearts for ministry as you evidently do. Your posts touched me like Sis. Alvear's do... spoken like a true servant who truly cares for the flock, and is not swayed by the finances of the people. Carry on BT... I'm praying for you too!

House church.

Acts 28:30-31
New King James Version (NKJV)
30 Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him, 31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.

Worship will probably end up that way again, brother.

I wonder how many epistles/letters he wrote during his time of "house church"? Anyone know?
