Re: Alternate "Non Ring" Proposal Ideas Needed
Well, I'm old and been married for almost 55 years so maybe I am out of touch
I received the HGB in a UPC church, went to one year of Bible School in a UPC church, and married a girl from a UPC church. Rings were not an issue in any of those places.
I bought a solitaire diamond and wedding ring in white gold. Total cost was $170 ($150 for the engagement ring and $20 for the wedding ring) and my future father-in-law had to cosign for me. Before the wedding I bought myself a wedding ring that matched. My wedding ring was $30.
When we got married I had recently turned 20 and my bride was 16. Her grandfather, a minister with the Church of Jesus Christ (Bishop Mark Lawson's group) performed the ceremony in the parlor of his house. The parlor was only used for special occasions. I think that was the only time I've ever been there. My wife wanted a double ring ceremony and when she told her grandfather that he said, "I don't have time for that. You can put your rings on afterward," because he had to leave to preach at a local church here in the Cincinnati area that night.
