There is no one/single UPCI teaching on water baptism. There are several different teachings within the UPC on water baptism. These various teachings go the gamut from the idea that water baptism is what Jesus referred to as "born of water" in
John 3:5 (the Roman Catholic teaching) to the teaching that water baptism is a symbolic public burial of the old person you used to be and a testimony that you believe int the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Then there are those who look at baptism as a symbolic washing and others who believe that sins are not remitted/forgiven/washed away until a person has been baptized with the "proper" words by a being spoken by a minister. Then there are several different "formulas" used in water baptism in the UPC. Some which teach that the 3 words "Lord" plus "Jesus" plus "Christ" equal one name and others which use the name "Jesus" with or without various titles such as "Lord" or "Christ" or "Father" or "Son" or "Holy Ghost." Therefore I cannot say that "the UPCI's teaching on water baptism is wrong" or right since there are differences in teaching within the organization.
