The very LAST thing you want to do (as we are finding in my own church that is looking for a pastor) is to rush through the process and get someone who may not be a pastor at all but a wolf in sheep's clothing! And yes, they are more common than you would think.
It may be unhealthy for a church to be without a pastor, but it is much , much more unhealthy for them to rush and choose the wrong man for the job! That can quickly destroy a church!
The way we are doing it at our church is fasting and prayer and letting God make the decision. When the man walks through the door of our church, I have every confidence that if we are sensitive to the spirit, God will tell us that is the man. Until then.... we WAIT! We do not rush something that God never intended rushing! There is nothing wrong with waiting on the Spirit until it tells you what to do!
Picking a pastor is one of the most important things a church can do. If the man has a vision and the church backs him... a church can go far.BUT.... if they choose the wrong person and he does not have a vision but is a hireling, it can destroy a church as well!
The bible says :
Proverbs 29:18
King James Version (KJV)
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
THAT is how important it is in choosing a pastor!
