The only simple answer I know to be true (to follow the Law of His Word, as He does nothing outside of His Word) is found in
Isaiah 59:16 "And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him."
No one could have redeemed us, He had to come Himself.
