I read Ayn Rand's book, Atlas Shrugged. At first I could not get into it so I put it down and picked it back up a year later. That time I could not put it down.
Even though Ayn is an atheist, I appreciate her literary talents. I thought that the book was brilliantly written, especially back in the day.
Our public school system does not teach literary skills like this anymore. In fact, I saw a copy of an eighth grade final exam from back in the early 1900s and it is equal in educational standards to todays college exams.

People make these documentaries with noble ideals, and really want to get the news out to the huddled masses, but the huddled masses are too busy complaining about Calvinism Vs Arianism, Vs Molinism, while watching "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," and drinking Red Bull.
We are in a Brave New world, and there is money to be made by people who are not on Internet Forums.

Re: For Randy Wayne
Some of you may enjoy this YouTube channel. His name is David Kobler and he is one half of the duo which makes up Practical Preppers, the group that does the final scoring on Doomsday Preppers. He is a die hard survivalist and ex military but does not come across as the Rambo type who is hunkered in his bunker just waiting for trespassers to cross onto his property and blow them to smithereens with home made pipe bombs. His advice is almost always very very good.

When I was young we had a neighbor who built a bomb shelter, which was the strongest bunker ever, it had its own storage room, high tech ventilation (high tech for the 70s) and generator which has its own ventilation and exhaust system leading to the outside.
My father use to refer to it as one very expensive tomb.
People have a science fiction understanding of nuclear war, if it would ever happen. Let's just take Okeechobee Florida for instance, it is estimated that there are close to 300 ICBMs pointed at that one location. That's just Lake Okeechobee. What about New York, Washington D.C., Los Angeles? If all these targets are hit by the payload of ICBMs, who survives?
Another thing to consider, these people who hoard food, ammunition, medical supplies, and weapons? Well I hope you can shoot as well as John Wayne, and fight like Jet Li, because when the starving and desperate marauding mobs make it to your hideouts it will look like World War Z, but without the popcorn.

This movie was taking too long to load, so, I gave up, and besides, he was talking for the first minute or so about a survivalist group and their conference, and ways to get in touch with him...
Which is interesting, because we do have a prepper group here in our area who have classes on a regular basis. Do it yourself kind of things, and we have gone to some of those, and learned some interesting things. Had a doctor come in and show basic first aid measures one time. Another class on canning and dehydrating, and so on. I like to go to learn things that will help whether the "world" goes down in my lifetime or not.

Just having SOME stuff put away and some basic knowledge puts you so far ahead of the rest of the population that it isn't even funny.

Just because people can steal your food doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

True and there may not be THAT many people trying to steal it anyways if you play your cards right. For one thing, I wouldn't be talking about any of my food storage if more members here lived close by. It is never brought up when talking to our neighbors. Even a number of close relatives know nothing about it.
The secret is to lay low should it become necessary to actually start using it, as much as possible. The guns (of which we have plenty) are a last last last resort.
